Under the direction of founder and Artistic Director, Carol Benton Richmond, Dance Kids now sponsors a summer theater arts camp, an annual performance of The Nutcracker at Carmel's Sunset Cultural Center and a spring musical revue, plus varied outreach programs. Performances are given in various schools, retirement communities, among other county locations to better expand the goal of reaching all children. Each event brings between 50 and 90 youngsters, ages 5 to 20, into the world of drama, musical comedy, ballet, contemporary dance and backstage production. Chamber Music Monterey Bay   http://www.chambermusicmontereybay.org/education.htm  Chamber Music Monterey Bay is aware of the importance of music participation and performance from childhood on.  However, we know that many local schools lack music instruction; some children have never been exposed to classical music, and many parents lack funds for kids' summer private music lessons or even lessons at all.  Yet, as chamber music lovers, many of us have experienced the formative value of summer music camps as youngsters first hand.  Thus, we know that such programs improve our children's education and quality of life, help develop self-esteem, social and leadership skills, and provide a type of experience now all too rare in public education.  These facts led us to establish the Monterey County Summer Music Program (MCSMP), a week long summer day camp (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) for music students from local Monterey County schools, grades 4 to 12.  It offers experienced coaching for strings, including: beginning instruction, intermediate string orchestra, and chamber music for advanced students.
